Salamander Crossing Bandana - 2022
Screen print on cotton naturally dyed with turmeric and onion skins
Every spring, yellow-spotted salamanders and other amphibians leave their places of hibernation and migrate to vernal pools to mate. Often, these migrations take them across dangerous roads, where they are often killed by cars. The first warm wet spring night of the year, my family joins many volunteers in visiting one of these salamander crossings to help the little critters get across the road safely. These bandanas are inspired by these salamander crossings, and celebrate the life cycle of the yellow-spotted salamander. 50% of the profits I made from selling these bandanas went to Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center (BEEC) in Brattleboro, VT to aid the important conservation work they are doing for yellow-spotted salamanders.
